If quarterback Vince Young rejoins the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the CFL team should immediately fire the guys in charge of player personnel, Chris Jones and John Murphy.
Young’s return would prove that Jones and Murphy truly have absolutely no ability to assess talent. Young cannot play in the CFL. He proved it during training camp, before tearing a hamstring and returning to the U.S.
Yet Young told a TV reporter he’s rehabilitating his injury and that the door is open for him to rejoin the Roughriders.
Young’s signing was a sideshow. His appearance garnered great attention but made nobody believe he was the second coming of Doug Flutie.
The circus should be over.
The Riders are getting good quarterbacking from Kevin Glenn and they have high hopes for backup Brandon Bridge. Their third-stringer, rookie Marquise Williams, arrived late in camp and blew right past Young in his ability to comprehend and handle a CFL offence.
Unless the Riders are simply trying to get attention — attention that could hurt the team — there is absolutely no reason to bring back Young.
