Taylor Field will soon be little more than a shell as its contents are sold off in auctions this week.
Everything from mop pails to benches and field goal posts are up for grabs online. Smaller items went for sale Tuesday.
“It went really well. What closed yesterday (had) a lot of interest,” said Riley McChesney with McDougall Auctions, the company facilitating the sale.
McChesney called the auction successful so far, and sees that continuing when bigger items – like the field goal posts and the Jumbo Tron – hit the auction block Thursday.
He expects action to really ramp up in the dwindling hours of the auction.
“The last day stuff goes within the last hour of the auction closing,” he explained to the CJME Morning Show Wednesday. “Stuff goes crazy.”
The entire field of turf – cut, rolled up and sold in various sizes – is among the items up for bidding Thursday.
“If you’re looking to hang a piece up in your man cave or … maybe you want to do your front or your back yard in some turf,” McChesney said.
As for that Jumbo Tron, McChesney has a suggestion for its future owners.
“You can make your own drive-in theatre in your backyard.”
The auction ends Friday with the entire east side of the stadium among the items for sale.
