The new overpasses at Balgonie and White City may have opened but not all traffic is getting the benefit of it.
Only eastbound traffic has access to the bridge as the other ramps are yet to be completed.
“It was part of traffic management phasing work, when the new bridge opened we couldn’t open the other two traffic movements as we built the new ramps over where the existing Highway 46 was,” Garrett Doyle with Regina Bypass explained. “Once that’s done, all traffic will be able to use the overpass in all directions sometime after Labour Day, in the first half of September.”
Right now traffic from Highway 46 is detoured through Balgonie and those needing Highway 33 must use the north service road or detour into White City.
The Balgonie overpass already ran into teething problems when it appeared the concrete curbs on the access ramps were too narrow for farm machinery.
The entire section of Highway 1 between the two overpasses should be fully operational and back to normal speed by Oct. 31.
