Riders new QB ready to learn from veteran Glenn

Roughriders Head Coach Chris Jones finally has the quarterback he’s had his eye on for nearly a year.

With the trade of Vernon Adams Jr. to Saskatchewan Tuesday, Jones said is excited to see what the young athlete can do in green.

“This is not something that just came up overnight you know,” Jones said. “We’ve been talking about this for over a year now.”

Adams arrived in Regina from Montreal Wednesday afternoon and immediately met with Jones.

“He’s as elusive as anybody I’ve ever had to coach against, certainly he’s got some things to work on as a quarterback, as all young quarterbacks do,” Jones said. “He’s 65 and 14 since high school so that’s what I like most.”

Jones said Adams will be immediately installed as the short yardage quarterback. Adams told reporters he’s excited about the opportunity in the green and white.

“I’m going to do my best to come here and compete, learn from KG (Kevin Glenn) like I was doin’ in Montreal and just have a good time,” he said.

The young quarterback has an impressive record so far, going 3-0 as a starter in his rookie season in Montreal.

Adams said he knows he has work to do, and is willing to put in the effort.

“I really wanna just perfect my ways as a quarterback,” Adams said. “Keep learnin’ from Kevin Glenn, see how he does it, see how he’s been playing for so long and just be a professional.”

Jones said it will be an open competition for Glenn’s back-up job between Adams, Brandon Bridge and Marquise Williams.
