There’s lots of reasons to love Regina, but Saturday the city got an extra pat on the back.
In honour of I Love Regina Day, thousands of people gathered at Mosaic Stadium to take in the festivities, and the most popular of all was the sneak peek at the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ locker room.
While waiting in a line that stretched across the football field, Carissa Johnson, a Regina mother of three and a huge football fan, said she was thankful to share this rare opportunity with her kids.
“I think I was a little more excited than they were this morning, to be honest,” she laughed. “Then, when we got here, they were just shocked and amazed.”
Having moved from Yorkton to Regina two years ago, Johnson said she’s proud to now call the Queen City home.
“I just love the fact that there’s always something to do with the kids — there’s never a dull day,” she said.
Face painting and bouncy castles were at the stadium for the children, and some city departments had booths set up to chat with older Reginans about their civic queries.
Residents were also treated to a free barbecue.
