A new extension of Argyle Street North had many people using it the minute it was open.
The road now extends from Sangster Boulevard to Rochdale Boulevard. The stretch of road opened Wednesday morning.
Ward 10 councillor Jerry Flegel said it was a very exciting day for everyone in Regina.
“This is just going to be another easy way for people to get in and out of the city, and relieve some of the stress,” Flegel said.
He added safety was big concern for the communities of Argyle Park, Englewood and Hawkstone.
“This becomes the third entrance (and/or) exit out of Argyle Park which was a big concern for the residents,” he said. “About four years ago, we had a concern where there was an accident that blocked (one entrance/exit) ‘what happened if somebody else were to have an accident at the only other location?’ Well now you have a third (exit/entrance).”

In the future, the surrounding land owned by Capital Auto Group will be developed. Retail stores, a gas bar and wash bay, along with a seniors complex, are in the plans.
Eventually, the road will also extend even further north to Big Bear Boulevard.
