Carmichael Outreach will be out of their current location at the end of September to move to their new permanent location.
Unfortunately, they won’t be able to do that until late November or early December.
“The reason we’re behind schedule is because there was a little bit more work that needed to happen before development could take place,” said Tyler Gray, public relations officer with Carmichael. “We had to take a step back and kind of re-evaluate our community consultation and do that a little more effectively.”
Gray said the work tying the various parts of the land under one title is nearing completion.
On Tuesday, the organization posted to Facebook stating they are in need of a temporary space to use from September until they move into their new building.
They are unable to stay in their current building because it has already been sold.
“We’re not super stressed right now in the sense of what we’ll be able to do come Oct. 1, but it is something we’re aware that we have a spot to go to so we’re reaching out to the community and hoping that somebody is going to be able to come along side of us and give us a spot to occupy for a couple of months that let us keep serving the people of Regina.”
Gray anticipates the re-location will most affect services, but admitted there could be other impacts to some of their programs, like their food program and space for clothing drop-offs.
“At this point, until we kind of know for sure where we’re going to land, there is potential for one of those programs to potentially be interrupted or, depending on what kind of space we have, having to kind of refit what we have to offer for a short period of time.”
The new, permanent location is located at 1510 12th Ave.
Gray said the new building will allow them to have more space for programs, such as doing a full sit-down meal service and a laundry facility.
The new building will also cost less for them to maintain.
