The Calgary Flames are at it again with Gary Bettman along side.
They say there’s no deal to be done with the city on a new arena, despite the mayor saying there is. Money and location are the big issues.
Oh, and conveniently for the Flames, they are now making this an election issue with Gary Bettman saying voters need to send a message to council and the mayor.
Calgary goes to the polls in just over a month.
I’d like the commissioner to stay out of it but there he is, saying there will be consequences if the Flames can’t get a new building.
President Ken King wasn’t clear on what this means for the future of the Flames in Calgary but we know one thing — we’ll see King and owner Murray Edwards likely pop up in Seattle or Quebec in the next few weeks to push Calgary even more.
I don’t think there is much of a chance that the Flames would move, which makes these hollow threats even more aggravating.
How about this Calgary: Send your message to the Flames and Gary Bettman that you don’t appreciate being pawns as they try to pull more and more taxpayer money into their rink.
