A caller to the Green Zone asked why does Johnny Manziel get so much talk when he hasn’t played quarterback in months when there are so many other quarterbacks out there.
Well, how many quarterbacks have won the Heisman Trophy, have been drafted in the first round of the NFL and been dubbed “Johnny Football” by football pundits during their days in college?
Hmm. Can’t think of one? Vince Young? Oh right, he didn’t win the Heisman.
But I do understand the frustration. Johnny Manziel has done all he can to commit career suicide. Heck, his father was worried his son would be dead before his 24th birthday because of the alcohol and drug abuse.
I’m sure his father is thrilled Manziel is closing in on his 25th birthday in December.
And there is the reality. Manziel is only 25. Matt Nichols is hitting his stride as a CFL quarterback at the age of 30.
There is a lot of football left to be played for Johnny Manziel. While he’s gotten as many headlines on TMZ as he has on ESPN in the last two years, there is talent there.
And if he has turned his life around as he claims, we may be finally talking about his football ability again, rather than the drama that he’s created.
