Connor McDavid is a great player and you’ll get to see him in the flesh at the Sasktel Centre tonight.
But he is not hockey’s top player.
Or at least not yet.
The Top 50 poll came out from TSN and for the first time in almost a decade, Sidney Crosby was not at the top of the list, rather number two behind Connor McDavid.
Wayne Gretzky even disagrees with the poll and he’s a paid employee of the Edmonton Oilers.
There is no denying McDavid’s ability. He will be the best player but what Sidney Crosby does all over the ice and his leadership off of it makes him the world’s best hockey player.
Coming off a second straight Stanley Cup Championship and a Conn Smythe Trophy, Crosby has a few years left to wow and amaze.
McDavid will be the best player but if I’m starting a team to win the Cup in 2017, Crosby would be my first choice without hesitation.
