Friday night reminded us all that they all can’t be Picassos.
Eighteen to 17 was not the score many had in mind when the Riders took on the banged-up Redblacks.
Thirty to 17, 42-10 and 45-25 were the types of scores being predicted going into the game. They were playing the Redblacks third-string quarterback after all.
Well, the Riders came very close to laying an egg but good teams find a way to win and the Riders did that.
Great teams do to opponents what the Calgary Stampeders did on Friday night with a 59-11 blowout over Montreal.
The Riders effort early in that game has to be a concern. The Riders inability to stop the run over the last two weeks may be an even larger concern.
Up next is a date with running back James Wilder Jr. and the Toronto Argonauts. If the Riders don’t improve, even Chris Jones predicted a 300-yard run game for Wilder.
As the temperature dips, the highlight on the run game will increase and the Riders better learn to stop it or their season will end in early November, rather than late November.
