Southwest Saskatchewan got an early blast of winter with a full-blown snowstorm for the first week of October.
By Tuesday morning Cypress Hills Park still had about 50 centimetres, or 20 inches, of snow on the ground and that wasn’t counting what melted.

Shaunavon, Maple Creek and Cypress Hills remained under a winter storm warning early Tuesday morning.
Environment Canada meteorologist Dan Fulton said this is relatively normal for October.
“This is the time that you can get these huge amounts because the atmosphere is still capable of holding a fair bit of moisture but now you’re starting to deal with the cold arctic air that’s coming down,” he said.
Highway conditions were pretty bad throughout Monday with reports of several vehicles in the ditch.
School buses were cancelled on Tuesday morning in the Chinook School Division for anywhere outside the City of Swift Current. The rain combined with the snow in the area made some of the grid roads almost impassable.
