The $1.33M rent reduction comes from what the club owed during seasons impacted by the pandemic.
Thirty-one years ago I met the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band when they played my wedding.
We paid them, thanked them and became their friends. Whenever they toured nearby we would see them, in Moose Jaw, Raymore, Regina, Saskatoon, Minot or Craven.
They sometimes called to make sure we had tickets; a couple times we went golfing together.
I’ve been listening to their music since long before they recorded “Fishin’ in the Dark.” Back to the days of “Mr. Bojangles” and “Buy For Me the Rain.”
Jackson Browne was an original, along with current band members Jimmie Fadden, John McEuen and Jeff Hanna. Keyboardist Bobby Carpenter joined the band 40 years ago.
The guys in the band hugged me after my dad died and again after my wife died. They liked the story about Eva determinedly booking them—multiple Grammy winners— for a Regina wedding. They’ve met my family and my partner.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has been the soundtrack of my life. The band is touring Western Canada as part of its 50th anniversary tour. We’ve got tickets.
