It will be a day of closure for Rider Nation.
In the early afternoon, dust will fill the air as the west upper grandstand falls at the site of Taylor Field. And as the dust balloons, so too will the memories as the stadium has been torn down piece by piece.
Today is the only time we will see a big chunk come down all at once.
For the most part we’ve moved on because we are a lot more comfortable in the new place, but the Regina skyline will change forever and the memories will be all we have left.
Then, there will be closure on an emotional breakup between the franchise quarterback Darian Durant and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
When Durant gets his due and the fans rise and applaud him, it will be that final moment where the door closes and bygones are bygones. From Coach Jones’ comments to Durant’s emotional victory celebration back in June.
It’s a major chapter in the history of the Riders all closing at once.
But maybe as the Riders head into the playoffs, a new chapter of glory days is opening.
