Was there anybody in the CFL you loved to hate more than Nik Lewis of the Calgary Stampeders?
He was a loud mouth, hot shot receiver for the over-the-top receiving corps of the Stamps. He’d trash talk through the paper and then when social media and twitter became popular you got even more from Lewis.
But was there a player you hated to love more than Nik Lewis?
As loud and as brash as he was, we started to become enamoured with the expanding Lewis.
He gave great sound bites and he generated interest in the Canadian Football League and created rivalries and storylines.
He was also a talented receiver, who is now the league leader in receptions all-time.
We saw him take off the jersey for the final time at Mosaic Stadium and all I could think was we can’t lose Nik Lewis. He’s too good for the CFL game in every way imaginable.
Congrats on a great career Nik, the league needs more guys who are engaging, irritating and exciting because it makes this league a lot more interesting.
