On the Green Zone Post Game show we give out the unsung hero award each and every night.
It’s a way to give a thumbs up to a player who won’t get the big headlines after the game, but was a solid contributor flying under the radar.
The CFL Awards should consider an honour of this type and I wish we could do a write-in ballot for them because Denzel Radford of the Roughriders may be a great candidate.
I couldn’t vote for Radford in front of Christion Jones for either top rookie or top special teamer, but Radford – who has been flipping from offence to defence during practices and, in games, leads the Riders in special teams tackles – is among the league leaders as well.
No. 14 is near the return guy all game long, forcing him either out of bounds, tackling him or stopping his momentum so his teammates can clean up.
He won’t be a Rider nominee when the player awards are announced, but Radford deserves similar accolades.
