It wasn’t only the Roughriders who had to deal with the snow this past — so did the fans. As many braved the chilly temperature to watch the game, some 800 fans were moved from their seats due to a snow cornice.
Snow was hanging over the edge of the roof on the stadium’s east side. Due to safety concerns, fans had to exit their seats.
“That’s the number one issue is to make sure that the fans were safe and this is, I would view, an extraordinary circumstance that would not have been anticipated,” Regina Mayor Michael Fougere said.
Fougere said an effort was made to clear the snow before the game had begun.
He said that there was also refunds given to people who couldn’t be moved to different seats.
Evraz Place CEO Mark Allan said he sat in on the early phases of the design process for Mosaic Stadium.
“It did contemplate snow loading and so we had some interesting circumstances that we weren’t anticipating with the roof on Saturday,” Allan said.
Allan said they will be talking with the design team about what they can change to make sure this doesn’t happen again in the future.
