I don’t believe how the Riders appear to be such underdogs from the projections and oddsmakers going into the playoffs.
CFL’s website’s math has them at a 2.11 per cent chance to win the Grey Cup.
Many gambling sites have them as the worst or tied for worst odds to win the Grey Cup.
But first, here is why the oddsmakers are right. The Riders are trying to do something no one has done before, which is cross over and even make the Grey Cup Final, let alone win it. Also, quarterbacks. The Riders have Kevin Glenn and Brandon Bridge but when you look at the other teams, the Riders QBs likely are last on the QB power rankings.
Now here is why the oddsmakers are wrong. Defence wins championships and the Riders’ defence has been outstanding in the back half of the season. They are 8-4 in the final 12 games and their run game is starting to take off again.
The good news for Rider fans. Whenever this team has felt slighted by pundits or opponents, they’ve come away with victories. So don’t think the Riders won’t use all of this as added motivation.
