Rider fans will look to celebrate or drown their sorrows in Ottawa Sunday as the Roughriders take on the Redblacks in the eastern semi-final.
For a long time, The Senate Sports Tavern on Bank has been the go-to bar for fans in green and white.
Manager Andrew Marquis said it’s because of the bar’s welcoming atmosphere.
“There’s lots of very friendly exchanges, but people are still very passionate about their sports teams,” he said.
Marquis added fans started whipping out their Rider jerseys late last week, and Sunday afternoon, he’s expecting to see a whole lot more.
He said there’s no denying the strong “green and white presence” around Ottawa.
“It seems that everywhere I go, there’s Rider fans there. I don’t know how you guys get there, but you end up there,” Marquis said with a chuckle.
In recent years, he added, Ottawa’s seen an increase in Rider fans, and the nation’s capital is expecting more than 1,000 of them this weekend. The tavern manager called it a testament to the light-hearted sports rivalry.
This game day, Marquis said The Senate Sports Tavern on Bank has only one message for Rider fans: “You’re welcome in here, but don’t take it too hard when you guys lose.”
