Chris Jones doesn’t make many people feel warm and fuzzy.
That’s not among his numerous job descriptions. Jones works for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He’s their head coach, general manager, vice-president of football operations and defensive coordinator.
With virtual carte blanche since being hired last year by the CFL franchise, Jones has constructed one of the four teams still vying for the 2017 Grey Cup.
The Roughriders eliminated the defending champs, the Ottawa Redblacks, on Sunday.
During the game Jones, for the most part, showed the sideline stoicism he usually portrays. But at one point a TSN cameraman got too close, potentially interrupting Jones as he signalled calls into his defence. Jones animatedly shooed away the camera.
That’s his demeanour. Cool and focused. Jones seemingly cares only about football, not about how he’s portrayed. And that’s why he’s being paid.
