A high-risk police operation blocked off a number of streets in Regina’s Cathedral neighbourhood Thursday afternoon.
Police had blocked off the 2000 block of Princess Street after an investigation lead officers to believe the site was used for criminal activity. A search warrant was used to search the premises.
The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was called in to help, along with Crisis Negotiators.
By 4:30 p.m. police had several people in custody, but there’s no details on how many were arrested. Police also didn’t specify what charges the people are facing.
Police believed firearms would be located at the location so they restricted traffic flow in the area, along 13th Avenue, Princess Street and Queen Street.
As a precaution, a school in the neighbourhood was placed in secure-the-building mode. It was the end of the school day so staff and school resource officers helped oversee the safe dismissal of students.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
