The Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO) announced a new festival next year and for the years to come.
The Forward Currents Festival will feature current socially relevant issues.
RSO Music Director, Gordon Gerrard said he’s personally very excited for it.
“It’s something I think is quite unique,” he said. “I’m not sure it’s been done in any other places — this notion of taking an issue that is socially relevant and starting discussions with it through music and other performing arts.”
The inaugural festival will kick off Mar. 2-4, 2018. The theme will be, Listen and Hear: Toward Prairie Reconciliation. It was chosen as part of the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action.
“We have lots of guest artist joining the orchestra, Indigenous artists from here in Regina and from across Canada,” Gerrard said. He pointed out that there’s no set amount of acts that will perform as the list keeps growing.
As for now, Gerrard said some of the acts that have given the green light to perform along with the RSO are the New Dance Horizons group, Jeremy Dutcher and Eekwol.
