For the first time ever, a member of the University of Regina Rams has been named the U SPORTS Rookie of the Year.
Linebacker Nick Cross, who played his high school football at Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School in Regina, won the Peter Gorman Trophy Thursday night.
Cross had an amazing first season with the team, becoming the first Rams player to start in the season opener right out of high school since 2008.
He led the team in tackles, with 33 solo and 26 assisted, and also added a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Cross was also named a second-team All-Canadian, becoming the first rookie in Rams history to earn that honour.
Quarterback Noah Picton was also recognized for a great season, earning first-team All-Canadian honours for the second straight year.
Picton joins only Jon Ryan, Jamir Walker, and Brett Jones as Rams players with multiple first-team All-Canadian selections.
