A lot of things went wrong on Wednesday when 16-year-old Josh Bear sat in front of reporters with FSIN chief Bobby Cameron and Ochapowace First Nation Chief Margaret Bear.
The teen had a falling out with his coach, recorded the final conversation which was a profanity-laced speech about the coach’s disappointment in the player’s actions.
The alleged voice, Kevin Rawlick, says a few times ‘I like you’ and explains why he was made an associate captain.
But really? A news conference over some profanity-laced language being directed toward an elite level hockey player? Please.
When listening to the audio recording, I heard a coach who has had it up to here with people giving Bear some bad advice. The coach clearly believed this young man was a special athlete, who could be going places.
Too bad the people who called this news conference may have had another agenda that wasn’t in the best interest of the kid.
Because this is what they achieved; Josh Bear is labelled a soft, snowflake, coddled, entitled, spoiled brat.
And that’s unfair. Just as unfair as questioning this coach’s ability and accusing him of racism.
