One of the most sought-after free agent quarterbacks in the Canadian Football League has been traded.
Edmonton Eskimo’s backup QB James Franklin is being sent east to the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for Canadian offensive lineman Mason Woods.
Franklin has been regarded by some experts as the top young quarterback in the CFL.
In his 12 career games with the Eskimos, he has thrown for 1,449 yards, 12 touchdowns and only one interception.
The move Monday could throw a kink in the Roughriders’ offseason plans as it was speculated Franklin would come to Saskatchewan and reunite with former head coach Chris Jones.
Franklin is set to be a free agent in February, and is not required to sign with the Argonauts.
There are also rumours a few NFL teams could be looking at the young quarterback.
