People in Regina can expect to see a heavy police presence at Saskatchewan Polytechnic this week.
Officers in tactical gear, police cruisers and a STARS helicopter will be part of a training exercise at the campus on Wascana Parkway from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It will include members of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), crisis negotiators and explosive disposal teams, along with STARS personnel, and students in the paramedic and Aboriginal policing preparation programs at Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
Emergency services teams conduct these realistic training scenarios on a regular basis and issued a media notice Monday to reassure the public.
Training scenarios never use live ammunition. Police said in the unlikely event that a real emergency situation develops, members of the public and media would be notified immediately.
According to Regina police, students and staff at the educational institution have been advised of the training through email, signage and other internal communications.
