With Jamie Nye away during the holidays, Green Zone co-hosts Arielle Zerr and Warren Woods came up with a great question yesterday. What’s the best sports gift you received at Christmas?
Super-slider snow skates were mentioned the most, as our listeners flashed back to shinny games and cross-country sprints. They called or texted us with their favourite stories. Hockey sticks. Baseball gloves. Football helmets.
How about tabletop hockey games, usually with tiny Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens spinning and wildly batting the puck all over your rumpus room?
Somebody else recalled getting one of those electric football games, where the miniaturized players vibrated on a green board until the player with the ball was contacted by an opponent. And when your receiver suddenly vibrated down-field in the wrong direction, it was so exasperating!
My favourite present was a book by my hero: “Hockey….Here’s Howe” in which Gordie Howe showed us how to pass and shoot like the Detroit Red Wings right winger.
Jamie Nye trumped us all though. Jamie and his wife, Rhonda, welcomed newborn son Jasper to start their holiday season.
