It might be freezing cold outside, but that’s not stopping people from hitting the slopes out at Mission Ridge.
Snow school director Anders Svenson told 980 CJME Thursday the winter park is running its kids program this week, and the weather isn’t dissuading the little ones.
“There’s lots of fair-weather skiers, for sure, but the excitement of a six, seven and eight-year-old who wants to go out skiing for the first time is pretty tough to contain,” he said.
As most of the province is under an extreme cold warning, Svenson said bundling up properly is the key to a successful ski day.
“Dress in layers. If it’s your first time, we have instructors on full-time throughout the holidays that can get you in a lesson, get you started the proper way and come out and have some fun.”
Svenson noted the current temperatures have actually frozen the hills into perfect shape for skiing.
“Snow conditions are nice and firm — which you don’t get in the spring time.”
While numbers aren’t as high as they usually are this holiday week, Svenson said there’s still people — willingly — enjoying the outdoors.
He added no matter how cold it gets, Mission Ridge plans to stay open. Visitors are still urged to check the park’s website or Facebook page before making the trip.
Mission Ridge is located around 75 kilometres northeast of Regina.
