The Riders’ football czar Chris Jones is showing it takes time and patience to see a rebuild really take shape.
And Zach Collaros may just be the final piece for Jones to take a three-win team to a Grey Cup because he has a quarterback he truly believes can win a championship.
Jones saw it first hand when Collaros was developing in Toronto and again game-planning against him when the Tiger-Cats were winning and Collaros was on his way to a Most Outstanding Player award in 2015 until an injury ended that dream.
Collaros does come with questions about injuries and whether last year’s disaster was organizational, an aberration or a sign Collaros is on the decline despite being only 29.
I think it’s the former and Collaros, with the weapons around him in Saskatchewan can become one of the top QBs again in the CFL.
And if he does. Chris Jones will get a lot closer to his goal of winning the Grey Cup and doing it his way.
