As surprising as the results were in the NFL playoffs this weekend, what surprised me more were who are leading their teams to the conference title games.
Last year, the final four included: Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers. The year before that it was Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Cam Newton and a revived Carson Palmer in Arizona.
This year’s final four is, of course, Tom Brady and then Case Keenum, Nick Foles and Blake Bortles leading their teams to the conference championships.
Now before we start etching the New England Patriots on a sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy. What gives?
What happened to the notion the best quarterback wins the games as Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger and Matt Ryan all lost over the weekend?
Well, the notion of defence wins championships may be returning. Philadelphia, Minnesota and Jacksonville are first, second and fourth in the fewest yards allowed and the same for points allowed this season.
I think one of these teams, and maybe as soon as this Sunday with Jacksonville, have one more major surprise for NFL fans.
