Rapidly changing weather in the province has SaskEnergy warning of possible natural gas leaks.
The Crown corporation is alerting its customers — both residential and business — that the freeze/thaw cycles being seen across Saskatchewan could lead to underground natural gas leaks.
SaskEnergy said its pipeline system is designed to withstand the province’s weather conditions, but due to the intense cold and depth of the frost layer, followed by sudden warming, the conditions are favourable for leaks.
Underground leaks typically occur in the spring, as the frost leaves the ground.
Anyone who suspects a leak was asked to contact SaskEnergy immediately at 1-888-700-0427. The line is open 24-hours a day.
