Zach Collaros is going to be paid like a starting quarterback. No surprise there.
He was obtained by the Saskatchewan Roughriders to become their starting quarterback, regardless of any lip service paid to Brandon Bridge before or after he re-signed with the CFL team.
According to TSN’s Matthew Scianitti, Collaros’ agent and the Roughriders started talking right after the trade. The upcoming agreement on a one-year contract would have a comparable salary to Bo Levi Mitchell or Trevor Harris, both of whom are undisputed starters.
Collaros was the league’s highest-paid player last year with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, reportedly earning an annual salary of $540,000. When the Roughriders traded for him, Collaros said he was willing to renegotiate.
Collaros gained the upper hand in negotiations, knowing that he was already under contract and the Riders really wanted him.
While the Riders might have been hoping for a drastic cut, it’s only going to be a slight reduction for the guy they plan on having under centre for the start of the 2018 season.
