The Regina Police and the Office of the Chief Coroner are conducting an investigation into the death of a man on Jan. 16.
At around 6:30 a.m., police and EMS were dispatched to a residence in a south Regina neighbourhood.
A 34-year-old man was found in medical distress inside the residence, and because EMS was still on route, police on scene began first-aid treatment.
When EMS arrived they also administered first-aid treatment before transporting the man to the hospital.
The man would be pronounced dead at the hospital.
Because officers were on scene first and took over care of the man before EMS arrived, police are requesting an independent oversight of the investigation.
The Ministry of Justice will appoint an independent observer to the investigation.
