The City of Moose Jaw is asking the public for input on whether to allow pot stores to open when marijuana is legalized.
When the province released a list of 40 communities eligible for retail marijuana permits it also offered municipalities the choice to opt out of allowing stores.
Moose Jaw is eligible for two retail permits, but the mayor has expressed some reservations about allowing stores in the city, saying he wants more information about the issue.
The issue will be discussed at the next city council meeting on Feb. 12. The city put out a call to residents to outline their thoughts on the issue by writing letters for consideration by city councillors.
The deadline to submit letters to the city clerkâs office is Feb. 5. Anyone who wants to speak at the council meeting is asked to tell the city clerk before 10 a.m. on the day of the meeting.
