Henoc Muamba was one of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ best acquisitions during the first year of the Chris Jones regime.
A high-priced free agent, Muamba was a Canadian starter at middle linebacker since arriving midway through the 2016 CFL season. Muamba’s a bonafide run-stopper who had some sensational games and a few marginal performances during one-and-a-half seasons in Saskatchewan.
He also made an off-field impact, which showed while helping serve Christmas Dinner to a less-privileged crowd in Regina. Muamba wore his green Roughriders garb proudly while meeting everyone who walked in the door.
But football is a harsh business.
As the Roughriders stockpiled expensive free agents, Jones decided Muamba wasn’t worth what he was being paid. When Muamba refused a pay cut, the Roughriders waived him in a move that caught the attention of the other CFL teams, his opponents and the people of Saskatchewan.
