Wray Morrison: It’s a hit

The men’s hockey tournament in South Korea, which is the most popular sport at the winter Olympics, provided some terrific story lines even though it lacked NHL skill.

Here in Canada a group of “no names” finished with a bronze medal.

I know the expectation is always gold or bust, but I thought it was great to see those players celebrate a bronze medal together in an event that for some was career highlight.

Watching the eighth-seeded Germans give the favoured Olympic Athletes from Russia team a scare in the gold medal game made for great theatre.

We also saw the true meaning of sport when the Korean hockey team gave former NHL player Jim Paek a salute on the ice to thank him for his work with the team. It was a show of gratitude that brought Paek to tears on the bench.

The Olympic men’s hockey event wouldn’t have been any more entertaining with NHL players. Consider it a success.
