The Tim Horton’s Brier isn’t just about curling: it’s about catching up with friends, making new ones, and – for one mother and daughter – revealing a big surprise.
In the middle of the first draw on Tuesday morning, Andie Gallagher and her mother were sitting in the stands when they popped up on the Jumbotron. But this one was a little different — it said Gallagher had a surprise, then read “I’m being posted back home!”
Gallagher has been posted away from home in Ontario for 20 years. She’s currently at 15 Wing in Moose Jaw.
“I just got posted back to Ontario, where I’m from, where my mom lives, and I hadn’t told my mom yet,” explained Gallagher. “So I thought it might be a cool idea to use the Jumbotron to break the news.”
The pair are big curling fans and they’ve been to a few Briers and Scotties each.
Her mom didn’t quite get the surprise at first though.
“I didn’t read the words below, I just saw me on the Jumbotron … And Andie said ‘read it, what it says’, that’s when it clued in,” said her mom.
The video ended with big smiles and a big hug.
Gallagher’s mother said it was a big surprise.
“It was a big surprise for me. We didn’t know they would ever come out this way – to Ontario. Because they really like it, more so, in the western part of Canada…”
“We miss family,” interjected Gallagher. “It’s time to go home.”
