A prominent Mountie is pleased with the Force’s latest appointment.
RCMP Sgt.-Major Tammy Patterson, who was named the first female Sergeant Major at Depot in 2014, said appointing Brenda Lucki as the new RCMP commissioner is “a wonderful thing.”
Over the years, Patterson said she’s looked up to Lucki as a mentor.
“She was a role model for me in ‘F’ Division when she came in as a newly-commissioned officer. It’s just exciting because of what she brings to the Force and the energy she’s going to bring to the office,” said Patterson.
Lucki was known for being a strong leader and working well with cadets, and Patterson said that’s the legacy she’s leaving behind at Depot.
“If we saw a problem, she’d come up with new ways on how to deal with it, and she always challenged us to challenge the status quo.”
Patterson said Lucki is more than qualified for her new position, and her being a woman is just a bonus.
