Roughriders’ running back Marcus Thigpen is facing a two-game suspension after testing positive for a banned substance.
On Monday, the CFL announced Thigpen tested positive for an anabolic steroid called dehydrochlormethyltestosterone.
The positive sample was collected during a random drug test last November.
The Roughriders released a statement from head coach and general manager Chris Jones.
“We are disappointed in Marcus and that he has tested positive for a banned substance. We have been in conversation with Marcus and the CFL for clarity and accept the league’s decision and corresponding two-game suspension,” Jones said.
Thigpen had 169 yards rushing and one touchdown in the eastern semi-final against Ottawa in November.
Under the league’s drug policy, Thigpen will face a two-game suspension as it is his first doping violation. A second violation for any player results in a nine-game suspension.
The running back will be eligible for pre-season games but will have to sit out for the first two regular season games. The team will have to decide if he is allowed to participate in mini-camps or training camp.
