Just ahead of the official start of spring, music fans are getting a preview of the lineup for Regina’s biggest summer music festival.
The Regina Folk Festival has announced Juno award winners Walk Off the Earth as headliners for the main stage.
Folk Fest artistic director and CEO Sandra Butel said she has been working on bringing Walk Off the Earth to Regina for five years.
“It’s always great to bring those artists that people know and then bring music for them to discover too,” she told the 980 CJME Morning Show, noting that there is a lot of great music on the list.
“I can’t wait for people to see Tanya Tagaq on the mainstage and music coming to us from the Ukraine with Dakhabrakha and Las Cafeteras from L.A. – Mexican from L.A. – and a whole array of artists from all over the world.”
In addition to the newer artists, Folk Fest will also feature familiar voices like Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Bruce Cockburn.
“He’s one of those classic artists, the one that people would expect at a folk festival and he’s creating new music which is always wonderful and he’s a great live performer and really has a positive effect on the audience too, so really glad to have him back,” Butel commented.
Weekend passes for Folk Fest for the weekend of August 10 to 12 are for sale and you can find the full list of artists online.
