With Calgary’s loss to Anaheim on Wednesday night, it’s unofficially official, the Flames will join the Canucks, Oilers, Senators and Canadiens out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
And I’m not one to jump on bandwagons come spring or pick a Canadian team, but I will say it won’t be hard to cheer for the Winnipeg Jets.
Their general manager is a Saskatchewan kid after all and they have an affable head coach in Paul Maurice and a bunch of young, skilled players with a character captain in Blake Wheeler.
An added bonus is they’re just a few hours down the road.
By no means am I going to go out and buy a Jets car flag, nor should anyone.
But for a team that was embarrassed by a report recently that stated Winnipeg was the least desirable place to play among NHLers no trade lists, I find it easy to root for the little guy.
And sometimes us prairie folk have to stick together.
