The NFL has just changed the game of football for the better.
Their rule change to ban any player from dropping their head to initiate contact with the helmet is significant.
Studies have shown the NFL that simple act leads to some of the most severe concussions and neck injuries you see in the sport.
So it’s out. And thank goodness.
The players are going to have to adjust their way of thinking substantially because they’ve become missiles on the field. Now, they’ll tackle like you’re taught from a small age. Eyes up.
I’m very interested to see how this impacts football. Will there be more penalties, broken tackles? But more importantly, will we see less dangerous hits? Will we see fewer injuries? Will we see fewer concussions?
I hope so.
And now I’d put pressure on the Canadian Football League to institute a similar ban.
I think it would be a no-brainer if protecting brains and their players was their number one priority.
