The “No Business in the Park” group will be protesting outside of the Conexus Arts Centre on Wednesday as the Conexus Credit Union (CCU) will hold its annual general meeting.
The group’s goal is to remind people that more buildings don’t belong in the park as the original park agreement states.
CCU still needs approval by the Provincial Capital Commission, to go forward with an 80,000 square foot head office near Darke Hall.
Group member Anna Gareikiotis said they should never have been allowed to begin to think about building their business in the first place.
“It’s 80,000 square feet of office space (with) 200 people and it’s a private company use for green space that is very precious to the citizens of Regina,” she said.
The group says the forefathers of the park never intended for it to be open for business. Members will be handing out pamphlets to Conexus members asking them to join the group to ensure Wascana Park remains a park for all to enjoy the way it currently is.
