The headline read Saquon Barkley’s agents don’t want him going to the Browns.
It is draft day next week and the running back from Penn State is one of the top prospects. The Browns have the first overall pick but they also pick fourth.
The report goes as far to say that Barkley should pull an Eli Manning and tell the Browns he won’t play for them if drafted. Manning did so to the Chargers and while they did draft him, they quickly dealt him to the Giants for quarterback Philip Rivers. In hindsight, things worked out Manning, who has two Super Bowl rings. But he may have been able to do the same with the Chargers. He was that good.
And don’t count out the Browns. They are making several moves that others in the AFC should be paying attention to. In the NFL, you can quickly go from laughing stock to contender. It took the Lions three years to go from zero wins to 10. The Raiders took two years to go from 3 wins to 12.
I’d actually be advising Barkley quite the opposite. He might be a great piece to help the Browns end their reign at the bottom of the standings.
