The Toronto Raptors have the game they wanted in round two.
LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers are the Raptors nemesis. The last two years, the Raptors have been the sacrificial lamb to the Cavaliers advancing in the post-season. Last year it was in round two, the year previous it was the Eastern Conference Final.
This series reminds me of what we’re seeing in round two of the NHL playoffs with the Washington Capitals against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The history of those two teams is simple: Washington is great in the regular season but can’t beat Pittsburgh when it matters.
The Raptors have had the same luck with Cleveland. Toronto does well in the regular season but LeBron leads his team like Sidney Crosby leads his Penguins.
While I’m unsure if Washington can actually clear their hurdle, I’m much more confident the Raptors are ready to take this next step.
Although doubting the world’s best player in LeBron James could be a flaw in the logic but James doesn’t have the same team he’s had the last two years.
Toronto’s team is better and deeper and has a real shot at beating the Cavs and take a giant step toward their first NBA Finals appearance.
