RM of Lomond issues precautionary fire ban

The Rural Municipality of Lomond issued a fire ban on Tuesday afternoon.

Greg Collins, the RM’s foreman, said it was put in place as a precaution, after his crews were recently called in to help fight grass fires in the nearby RM of Souris Valley.

“It’s crispy dry, there’s no water laying anywhere,” he said, noting the area hasn’t had any rain since the snow melted.

Collins said the fire ban includes burning garbage, bonfires and controlled burns in fields.

He also reminds those driving in the area not to throw their lit cigarette butts out their vehicle window.

The RM of Lomond includes the village of Goodwater and the hamlet of Colgate. It’s located about 32 kilometres south of Weyburn.
