Call it Darrell and Rob’s Excellent Adventure.
Rob Vanstone and I are heading to Winnipeg today for Game 4 of the NHL playoff series between the Jets and Nashville Predators. What a great series it’s been, with Winnipeg winning Tuesday to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven.
It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. A friend offered me a ticket for face value — $250 — and I decided to drive six hours to Winnipeg and enjoy the pregame party before heading inside Bell MTS Place with 16,000 fans. Rob, a long-time Jets fan, was one of numerous friends and family members who asked if they could tag along. Yeah, why not? We’re splitting gas and hotel costs, and we’re going to call into the Green Zone.
We could have gotten media passes and worn jackets and ties in the press box. But we’re going as fans. Unlike Rob, I don’t have a Jets jersey. I’m not going to buy one. Maybe I’ll buy a white t-shirt or wear one of my old, white rec hockey jerseys. I’m thinking it will be dangerous to not wear white to the Winnipeg Whiteout.
