Jamie Nye: Manziel means it’ll be more football and less circus

Many believe the circus has arrived with Johnny Manziel signing officially in the Canadian Football League.

But if past precedent is any indication, the circus just ended.

The circus around Manziel was the will or won’t he come here. The heat on his potential arrival was fuelled by a domestic violence charge, the drinking, drugs, rehab and TMZ.

Manziel is one of the most famous NFL quarterbacks to arrive in the CFL.

Yes, there may be a little more media attention but if you believe he’s reformed his off-field life, there shouldn’t be much of a circus.

Vince Young was in Saskatchewan last year and while it only lasted a few weeks before he injured himself, some thought it was going to be a circus. It wasn’t.

A few U.S. reporters came but nothing many had predicted.

The same will go with Manziel as long as he keeps his nose clean.

There are some who want him to fail, others want him to take this league by storm. The circus is over. Now we can just focus on how he plays the game of football.
