The calls are coming to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a quarterback. You look around the league and ponder who would be interested.
There is an obvious one but nobody can confirm Montreal may be interested in reuniting with Brandon Bridge.
With Zach Collaros in Saskatchewan, you’d be stupid not to ask the Riders about Bridge if you were a GM looking for quarterback depth.
But the Riders have a plan for Bridge. Bridge has told me head coach Chris Jones has told him that he believes Bridge has what it takes to be a highly paid and productive quarterback.
And as Bridge noted, Jones has done nothing to him to doubt that assessment. The Riders are high on Bridge even though Collaros has been brought in to stabilize the quarterback spot for 2018. We don’t know the long-term plan for Collaros as he’s only signed through this season.
But Jones shot down any conversation about a potential trade because he knows a one-two punch at quarterback is imperative. Look at last year’s Riders.
Without a capable back-up, you’re risking your season on the health of one guy. That’s not going to work for a team like the Riders who believe they can win it all this season.
