This has been a weird week or so in terms of spouses and girlfriends in pro sports.
Basketball executive Bryan Colangelo is out of work in Philadelphia because his wife set up twitter accounts and attacked players etc, disclosing private team details.
Now in Ottawa the harassment Karlsson’s wife received may be the sickest anyone could encounter, with someone, allegedly Mike Hoffman’s girlfriend, going on social media wishing her unborn child died.
Karlsson later did give birth to a stillborn child. Again, the harassment arrived blaming Karlsson for the boy’s death.
Sick.
And potentially from a teammates girlfriend?
Some wives reacted to the story in favour of Karlsson, as the story suggests many of the wives and girlfriends knew what was going on but it was being kept quiet out of respect.
Now it’s out in the open and it’s disturbing.
Wives and girlfriends will have personality conflicts, as will players, but something this deep and hurtful will lead to a major rift and both players may have to be traded.
If so, here’s hoping the Karlssons find greener pastures somewhere and whoever is harassing them gets some serious help.
